The beauty of Mykonos

Situated on the Mediterranean and a part of the Cyclades, Mykonos is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in the whole of Europe. The temperature is considered perfect for sunbathing in high season (July and August) when the beaches and bars are packed with people of all ages looking to experience everything this Greek paradise has to offer.

The beauty of the beaches on Mykonos

The beaches are set up so that everybody can find something to please them. Some are family orientated while others accommodate topless or full nude sunbathing. The main beaches on the island are littered with chairs and umbrellas that are available for hire and are lined with hotels, restaurants and bars that provide refreshments and entertainments and offer a variety of atmospheres to make anybody’s holiday special.

Beaches away from the south coast are often affected by a strong northerly wind but in some cases this adds to their beauty. To reach some of the more remote ones it is wise to hire a car or scooters for the day and head of for an adventure where you can find hidden beaches and coves that the main crowd have missed. The wind also makes some of the beaches ideal for water sports such as windsurfing, which can be arranged on the day or often in advance through your hotel.

Other beautiful attractions of Mykonos

Mykonos has many other beautiful attractions, such as around 200 little whitewashed churches that are hundreds of years old and provide a glimpse into how the Orthodox Church goers have worshipped on the island down the years. For more historic buildings, the wind mills in Mykonos Town offer a look at how grain, which was previously one of the main exports of the island, was made up to the 16th century and one of them is a fully working replica that can be toured.

The nearby Agricultural Museum offers a look at other farming practices of the island while the Folk Museum has two houses that are also full replicas of homes from the island’s past. The Archaeological Museum and the nearby island of Delos are also a must see to get a feel for the ancient history of Greece and how the population of an early civilisation lived their lives.

Where to stay

There are various places you can stay in Mykonos. The best places however are near Platys Gialos Beach or Psarou Beach. There you can find Hotel Palladium – hotel Mykonos where you can stay and enjoy your vacations.

The Beauty of Mykonos Town

The town of Mykonos is one of the most picturesque places you are ever likely to see and is full of whitewashed, flat roofed buildings that will make you feel like you have gone back in time. Little Venice adds a little colour with its balconies and is full of bars and restaurants that overlook the Aegean Sea. While the whole island is home to spectacular views, especially at dusk, the sunset from Little Venice is easily not only one of the most beautiful sights on Mykonos, but in the rest of Greece too.
